Replacement sensors for common Porsche PADM failure and fault codes P001013 & P001023.

A Porsche PADM warning does not necessarily mean the complete engine mount has failed.

On many Porsche 911, Cayman and Boxster models, the issue can be caused by failure of the integral PADM sensor within the engine mount rather than a mechanical problem with the mount itself.

The Genome Design Porsche PADM replacement sensor kit has been developed to address this common sensor failure directly, allowing the existing PADM mounts to remain in service where they are still mechanically sound.

Our PADM replacement sensors are supplied as a pair of two sensors and are available for compatible Porsche 991, 981 and 718 models.

What Causes Porsche PADM Failure?

The Porsche PADM system uses dynamic engine mounts that change their characteristics depending on how the vehicle is being driven.

When a fault occurs, the vehicle will commonly display a PADM unavailable or disabled warning, often alongside an engine management light.

Diagnostic testing may identify one or both of the following fault codes:

P001013 - Left PADM engine mount

P001023 - Right PADM engine mount

A common repair route is to replace the complete PADM engine mount assembly.

However, through our own diagnosis and investigation, we have found that in many cases the fault originates from the integral PADM sensor rather than the mechanical mount itself.

The original sensor construction can suffer from failure within the internal electrical connection, including cracked solder joints, causing a short-to-ground fault and disabling the PADM system.


How Does the Genome Design PADM Sensor Work?

The Genome Design replacement sensor has been developed to remove the weak point found within the original factory sensor arrangement.

Unlike the original soldered and glued connection, our replacement uses a billet aluminium sensor body, enclosed electronics and a secure jack-plug connection to the original vehicle wiring.

The failed sensor is removed and replaced while retaining the existing PADM engine mount where it remains mechanically serviceable.

This provides a much more focused solution than replacing a complete functioning mount unnecessarily.


Porsche PADM Sensor Compatibility

Replacement sensors are available for compatible Porsche 911, Cayman and Boxster models, including applications across the 991, 981 and 718 generations.

Different models use different sensor and engine mount arrangements, so it is important that the correct version is selected.

Porsche 718 Cayman & Boxster

On compatible 718 Cayman and Boxster models, the replacement sensor can often be installed while the PADM mounts remain fitted to the vehicle.

Porsche 981 Cayman & Boxster

Replacement PADM sensors are also available for compatible Porsche 981 Cayman and Boxster applications.

Porsche 911 991

On Porsche 991 applications, both PADM engine mounts need to be removed from the vehicle and separated to allow the replacement sensors to be installed.

No Coding Required

The Genome Design PADM replacement sensors do not require vehicle coding or programming after installation.

Once fitted, the stored PADM fault codes should be cleared using suitable Porsche diagnostic equipment or an appropriate OBD scanner.

Providing there are no additional faults within the system, normal PADM operation can then be restored.

Every pair is supplied with a 2-year replacement guarantee.

If a Genome Design sensor develops the same confirmed PADM sensor fault during the guarantee period, we will replace the affected sensor subject to our guarantee terms.


Porsche PADM Failure FAQ

What are the symptoms of Porsche PADM failure?

The most common symptom is a yellow PADM unavailable or disabled warning on the dashboard. An engine management light may also illuminate.

What do fault codes P001013 and P001023 mean?

P001013 relates to the left-hand PADM engine mount circuit.

P001023 relates to the right-hand PADM engine mount circuit.

These codes are commonly associated with the sensor fault addressed by the Genome Design replacement kit.

Does a PADM warning mean I need new engine mounts?

Not necessarily. In many cases, the fault is caused by the integral PADM sensor rather than mechanical failure of the complete mount.

The vehicle should be correctly diagnosed before complete PADM mounts are replaced.

Can the PADM sensor be replaced separately?

Yes. The Genome Design solution allows the failed sensor to be replaced separately where the existing engine mount remains mechanically serviceable.

Do the sensors need coding?

No. The replacement sensors do not require coding or programming. Stored fault codes simply need to be cleared after installation.

Are the sensors supplied individually?

No. Genome Design PADM replacement sensors are supplied as a pair.

Can Genome Design fit them?

Yes! We can supply the sensors or carry out diagnosis and professional installation at Genome Design.

Will they affect my Porsche warranty?

We are not aware of a Porsche warranty claim being declined solely because Genome Design PADM sensors have been installed.

However, warranty decisions remain at the discretion of Porsche or the individual warranty provider.

If your Porsche 911, Cayman or Boxster is displaying a PADM warning or storing fault codes P001013 or P001023, complete engine mount replacement may not be necessary.
