Porsche 992.1 Carrera and Carrera T Stage 2 Tuning Package

The 3.0 litre twin turbo in the 992.1 Carrera and Carrera T leaves Porsche with plenty in hand. Our 992 Stage 2 package uses it. On our dyno, a Carrera T went from 346whp to 450whp, and from 337lb-ft to 436lb-ft of dyno torque.

It's a complete 992 Carrera remap and hardware package, fitted at our Porsche specialist workshop near Leeds and York: GD sports cats, BMC air filters and our own in-house Stage 2 ECU calibration. If you only want the calibration, there's a software only option too.

992 Carrera T Stage 2 dyno results

We ran the same car three times: standard, with the hardware only on a stock map, then with the hardware and our calibration. Same dyno, same cell, SAE J607 corrected.

Power (whp) Dyno torque (lb-ft) Gain over stock
Stock 346 337 n/a
GD sports cats and BMC filters, stock map 370 348 +24whp, +11lb-ft
Stage 2 (hardware and calibration) 450 436 +104whp (30%), +99lb-ft (29%)

992.1 Carrera T dyno graph, stock against Stage 2: 346whp to 450whp, SAE J607 corrected

Stock against Stage 2 on our hub dyno. Wheel horsepower and dyno torque, SAE J607 corrected. Test car: 992.1 Carrera T (manual).

The sports cats and filters on a stock map added 24whp and 11lb-ft. The calibration added a further 80whp and 88lb-ft on top. We datalogged all three runs, and the video walks through the logs for each stage.

Torque is dyno torque. It's calculated from wheel power and engine RPM, not measured at the wheel, so use it to compare the three runs rather than as a crank figure. Every car is different, so we won't promise 450whp on yours. Expect similar gains.

What's in the 992 Stage 2 remap package

Stage 2 means the remap is written for upgraded hardware. On the 992 Carrera, the sports cats and filters let the engine breathe more freely, and our calibration is built around that. It adjusts boost, fuelling and ignition timing to suit. That's why the package is sold as one job: the hardware and the calibration are developed together on our dyno.

GD sports cats. The Genome Design sports cats replace the factory catalytic converters on your 992 Carrera or Carrera T. They use a 200 cell catalyst core, which flows more freely than the restrictive factory converters, so there's less back pressure in front of the turbos. Cell count is the number of channels per square inch in the core. Fewer channels means bigger openings and less restriction, and a 200 cell core still has catalyst in the exhaust. They're built from lightweight stainless steel with a heat shielding coating, they work with the factory exhaust or an aftermarket system, and they give the car a deeper exhaust note. The GD sports cats are MOT compliant. Full details are on the GD sports cat page.

BMC air filters. BMC filters replace the original paper filters and are designed to flow more air. The media is cotton gauze soaked in low viscosity oil, sitting on an alloy mesh with an epoxy coating that protects it from petrol fumes and humidity. They're supplied as a pair and fit the 992 Carrera from 2020. Details are on the BMC air filter page.

PDK calibration. If the engine makes more torque, the gearbox needs to be able to hold it. On PDK cars the calibration raises clutch line pressure for more clamping force, and adjusts shift points, RPM limits and gearbox torque limiters to suit. The engine calibration is the same on manual and PDK cars.

Options. Tell us at booking and we'll build any of these into your calibration: increased burbles, auto start stop removal, left foot braking and exhaust flaps fully open.

So the package is:

  • GD sports cats, 200 cell, MOT compliant
  • BMC air filters
  • Genome Design Stage 2 ECU calibration
  • PDK calibration, on PDK cars
  • Options: increased burbles, auto start stop removal, left foot braking, exhaust flaps fully open
  • Fitting by our in-house Porsche Master Technician

992 Carrera Stage 2 price, fitting and warranty

Full Stage 2 package
Manual cars: £3,375+VAT, fitted.
PDK cars: £4,175+VAT, fitted.

Software only (ECU calibration, no hardware)
Manual cars: £950+VAT.
PDK cars: £1,750+VAT. Manual cars need the engine calibration. PDK cars need that and the PDK calibration (£800+VAT).

On the full package the £800+VAT difference between manual and PDK is the PDK calibration. Parts, calibration and fitting are all in the price. Every package is fitted at our Porsche workshop in Sherburn in Elmet by our in-house Porsche Master Technician. If you're looking for Porsche tuning in Leeds, York or the wider Yorkshire area, we're close.

Tuning can affect your Porsche manufacturer warranty. Our Tuning Approved Warranty is available as an add-on for tuned Porsches. It isn't included in the package price.

  • 12 months: £1,350+VAT
  • 24 months: £2,275+VAT (saves £425+VAT against two 12 month terms)

Questions we get asked

Can you tune a Carrera T, and does it fit the standard Carrera?

Yes to both. The Carrera T has the same 3.0 litre twin turbo engine as the standard Carrera, so the same Stage 2 package fits both. The test car on this page is a Carrera T. This package is for the 992.1, built before the 2024 facelift. If you have a Carrera S or GTS, see our 992 GTS and Carrera S package.

What is a Stage 2 tune, and is it the same as a remap?

A remap is the ECU calibration. Stage 1 is a remap on standard hardware. Stage 2 adds hardware that improves airflow, and the calibration is written to suit it. On the 992 Carrera, ours is GD sports cats, BMC air filters and our Stage 2 calibration, so you get the remap and the hardware it's written for, fitted, for one price.

How much power does Stage 2 add, and what does it cost?

On our test car, 104whp (346 to 450whp) and 99lb-ft of dyno torque, with 24whp of that from the sports cats and filters alone. The full package is £3,375+VAT for manual cars and £4,175+VAT for PDK cars, fitted. Software only, the ECU calibration on its own, is £950+VAT for manual cars and £1,750+VAT for PDK cars. The Tuning Approved Warranty is the only optional extra.

Can you add burbles, remove start stop or open the exhaust flaps?

Yes. We offer increased burbles, auto start stop removal, left foot braking and exhaust flaps fully open. Tell us which you want when you book and we'll build them into the calibration.

Is it MOT compliant, and will it be louder?

The GD sports cats are 200 cell and MOT compliant. A 200 cell core has larger openings than a higher cell count, so it restricts the exhaust less. They do give the car a deeper and louder exhaust note.

Why do you quote whp, and what does SAE J607 mean?

The dyno measures power at the wheels. Crank power is higher once you add back drivetrain loss, but any conversion is an estimate, so we publish what we measured. SAE J607 is the correction standard the dyno applies for air temperature and pressure so runs can be compared. It's an older standard, so our figures won't line up with a sheet corrected to a different one. All three of our runs used the same one.

Will it affect my Porsche warranty?

Tuning can affect your manufacturer warranty cover. That's why we offer our own Tuning Approved Warranty, at £1,350+VAT for 12 months or £2,275+VAT for 24 months.

Manual or PDK, and where is it done?

Both. The engine calibration is the same, and PDK cars also get the PDK calibration. It's all done at our Porsche workshop in Sherburn in Elmet, near Leeds and York. To book in or ask a question, call 01924 566 809 or email enquiries@genomedesign.co.uk.
